KATHMANDU . Nepal national cricket team head coach Stuart Law has welcomed the recent leadership transition within the squad, declaring that a "new era" has begun under newly appointed One-Day International (ODI) captain Sandeep Lamichhane as the team prepares for its upcoming tour to Malaysia.
Speaking at a farewell program organized by the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) in Kathmandu, Law expressed strong optimism about the squad's future and highlighted the strategic preparations underway for the ACC Men's Premier Cup in Malaysia, noting that change brings fresh energy, new ideas, and elevated expectations for the playing group.
Looking ahead to the conditions in Malaysia, Law noted that the pitches are expected to play low and slow, which should favor spin and suit Nepal’s traditional strengths. He emphasized that the current squad features a healthy balance of youth and experienced senior professionals, and that he and Lamichhane will be working closely to construct the most competitive combinations.
The head coach also pointed out that while the ODI squad heads to Malaysia, parallel preparations are ongoing for the T20 group ahead of the upcoming Asian Games, reflecting a broader strategy to build depth across multiple formats simultaneously.
Reflecting on the team's recent struggles during the series in the Netherlands, Law acknowledged the team's decision-making lapses under pressure on grassy tracks, while emphasizing that pitch conditions and toss outcomes played a significant factor. He reiterated that 50-over cricket requires a high level of match intelligence, patience, and adaptability across distinct phases-demanding Test-match discipline during the initial overs before accelerating late in the innings.
Reaffirming his trust in the squad and its new leadership, Law expressed confidence that the team would strike the right balance between smart tactics and controlled aggression to deliver entertainment and results for Nepali cricket fans.
