The Lalitpur District Team emerged as the overall champion of the Bagmati Province Chess Championship, a three-day tournament organized by the Bagmati Province Sports Development Council.
The competition featured Classical, Rapid, and Blitz chess events for both men and women, with a total of 18 medals (6 gold, 6 silver, and 6 bronze) up for grabs. Lalitpur secured the team championship title by winning 2 gold and 2 silver medals.
Lalitpur claimed gold medals in the Men’s Classical and Men’s Rapid categories, while earning silver medals in the Men’s Blitz and Women’s Rapid events. Chitwan District finished as the runner-up, winning two gold medals in the Women’s Classical and Women’s Rapid categories.
Kathmandu District secured third place overall, earning one gold, one silver, and one bronze medal in the Women’s Blitz category. Kavrepalanchok District finished fourth, winning one gold medal in Men’s Blitz and one silver medal in Men’s Classical.
Makwanpur District earned a silver medal in the Men’s Rapid category, while Dhading District won a silver medal in the Women’s Blitz event. Similarly, Bhaktapur District collected three bronze medals—one each in Men’s Rapid, Men’s Blitz, and Women’s Blitz. Dolakha District secured a bronze medal in the Men’s Classical category, while Ramechhap District won a bronze medal in the Women’s category.
The prize distribution and closing ceremony were held at the Hetauda Party Palace Hall under the chairmanship of Sangeet Shrestha, Chess Coordinator of the Bagmati Province Sports Development Council.
The chief guest of the event, Bagmati Province Assembly Member Ekalal Shrestha, honored Shailendra Neupane of Kavrepalanchok as the Best Male Player and Laxmi Kandel of Chitwan as the Best Female Player of the tournament.
Former Minister Ekalal Shrestha also presented awards to the medal-winning teams, including champion Lalitpur, runner-up Chitwan, and third-placed Kathmandu.
