Gita Kathayat of Tribhuvan Army Club (TAC) and Abhishek Baral of Nepal Police Club (NPC) won gold medals in the ongoing 13th Korean Ambassador International Taekwondo Tournament . Abhishek Shrestha and Gita clinched gold medals in women's under 53 kg weight category and in men's 80 kg weight category at the Nepal Taekwondo Association Hall in Satdobato on Friday. Gita and Abhishek are the players undergoing special training under the Mission-2026 run by the National Sports Council.
In the senior women's category, Army's Bina Nath won silver, while Kanchan Khadka and Arati Singh of Chandranigahapur won bronze medals. In men's event, Paras Chand of Dhaugagiri Dojang and Bishant KC of Dhaugagiri Dojang and Subash KC of Army won bronze medals.
Army's Sagun Shrestha, Army's Dhan Singh Pariyar and Pokhari Dojang's Anish GC and NPC's Bhuwan Mahara won the gold medal in the men's U-68 kg category. Likewise, in the junior men's under 55 kg category, Karan Dholi of Dilip Smriti Dojang, Raju Ayer of Rit Dojang, Sudip Nepal of Nagarjun Dojang and Kris Budhathoki of Kanchanpur came out first, second and third respectively. Pratima Bhujel of Gorkhali Dojang won gold in women's category. She defeated Purnima Shrestha of Gorkhali. Tayami Rai of Kakarbhitta and Anjana Bista of Alf Dojang won bronze medals.
Players from Nepal, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Bhutan are taking part in the championship. Para taekwondo will also be included in the championship along with gyorogi, poomsae. A total of 1,530 players are competing in the championship in all three categories, according to tournament coordinator Bhan Bahadur Chand.
