Norbu T Sherpa Clinches Chivas Open Golf Tournament Title

Kathmandu, 22 March 2025 - Norbu T Sherpa emerged victorious at the prestigious Chivas Open Golf Tournament held at Gokarna Golf Club on Saturday. Playing with a one-handicap, Sherpa showcased exceptional skill to score 43 stableford points, securing a commanding five-point victory over Chewang Sherpa.
Norbu T Sherpa's stellar performance included eight impressive birdies on the third, fifth, seventh, ninth, 11th, 13th, 15th, and 17th holes. Despite carding two bogeys on the second and sixth holes, his consistency ensured him the champion's title. Norbu also claimed the 'Most Birdies' award for his remarkable performance.
Chewang Sherpa, playing with a 13-handicap allowance, finished runner-up with 38 stableford points. Due to the one-player-one-major-prize rule, despite Norbu's impressive gross score of 42 points, the 'Best Gross' award was presented to Wangchen Dhondup, who carded 36 gross points. Dhondup triumphed in a countback against Lt. Col. Nischaya Jung Rayamajhi, scoring 19 points on the back nine compared to Rayamajhi's 18 points.
In the ladies' category, Gita Gurung claimed victory with 25 points, while Anjila Yonjan finished runner-up with 19 points. Among senior participants, Bhairaja Pandey secured the top spot with 33 points, winning on a countback against Suhrid Ghimire, Tendi Sherpa, and Purna Bahadur Rai.
Special prizes were also awarded, with Phuntsok N Lama winning the 'Longest Drive' award, and Lt. Col. Nischaya Jung Rayamajhi claiming the 'Closest to the Pin' award.
The Chivas Open Golf Tournament saw a total of 103 players, including five female golfers, participating in the 18-hole stableford format with 3/4 handicap allowance.
The prize distribution ceremony was graced by Business Development Manager of Pernod Ricard, Mr. Saurav Bhattarai; President of Gokarna Golf Club, Mr. Suhrid Ghimire; and Club Captain, Mr. Joseph Nathan, who jointly handed out the awards to the winners.
