Nepal senior football team finally broke the goal drought in the international friendly against Chinese Taipei Thursday. Gorkhalis were able to hold host where new comer striker Abhishek Rijal scored in the second half to equalize the match.

Manang Marsyangdi Club forward Rijal, made international debut against Malaysia earlier this week, entering ground in second half. Against Chinese Taipei, he was introduced in playing XI for the first time.

Nepal’s performance was frustrating since last eight months. They could not score a single goal since September, when they played Bangladesh in Dhaka SAFF Championship. Since that victory, Nepal played six matches, but neither they could find a victory nor a single goal.

Under Swedish coach Johan Kalin, Nepal played fourth match, without victory the record now is two draw and same numbers of defeat. Earlier they held Kuwait and lost to lower ranked Malaysia at Bukit Jalil National Stadium, Kuala Lampur.

Coach Kalin said that he was pretty happy with the performance. He is happier with the debut goal on his regime.

‘We were one nil down and the boys showed some really good character to come back in the game’, he admitted that he was impressed of attitudes of his team.

‘We have good young players and they need time to develop. The process have been step by step, working on the shape of the team, then add the pressing game, then to add some tactical elements.’

So far we are really well with the shape of the team, this is my fourth game and this is the first time we have conceded from open play. By far we’ve built a strong organization.’

Scorer Rijal was also happy to contribute for the team. ‘Coach trusted me with the opportunity and I am glad to pay the team back,’ he added.

Chinese Taipei head coach Lois Lonchaster was also impressed by the performance of Nepali team. He said,’We didn’t expect to be this strong. As being the home team we expected to have the game on our side but it wasn’t the case today.’
