Umesh Patwal appointed chief coach of Nepali cricket team

Umesh Patwal signs as the chief coach of Nepal National Cricket Team after he is appointed by the International Cricket Council. International Cricket Council, yesterday appointed Patwal as the new chief coach of Nepal Cricket Team.

Patwal working as the batting consultant of Nepalese cricket team since some years. After the suspension of Nepal Cricket Association, ICC is governing Nepalese cricket. The signing ceremony was supposed to be held Friday. But because of disputes between coordination committee of National Sports Council and Coach Jagat Tamata and ICC, the signing took place today.

He will start his duty from 10th of June. After his appointment, role of current head coach Jagat Tamata is in dilemma. But, in signing ceremony Patwal said he will work together with Tamata. ‘He (Tamata) is well experienced coach, and I expect him to contribute in the development of grass root cricket,’ Patwal said. Tamata also urged to work with patwal. Captain of Nepalese Cricket team Paras Khadka appealed all the fraternity to cooperate during the suspension of CAN. Member Secretary of NSC Keshav Kumar Bista, treasurer Sailesh Karmacharya, skipper Paras Khadka were present in the program organized at Tripureswar, Kathmandu.

Member Secretary Bista said,’I expect well experienced foreign coach Patwal will help Nepal to win medal in South Asian Games and other tournaments.’ We can appoint more international coach if necessary.’ Patwal was hired as a batting consultant during Nepal tour of UAE where Nepal played 3 ODIs and 3 Twenty20s, in 2018. He has worked in Afghanistan National cricket team as batting coach 2014.

He has been involved in the development of Afghanistan seniors like Mohammed Nabi and Samiullah Shenwari and Asghar Stanikzai as they have travelled Mumbai to train with him since 2008
